I know that winter hockey is not even finished yet, and it really does feel too early to be thinking about summer hockey.  However, Hockey Geelong has scheduled the summer hockey competition to start in the second week of October, which is now only a month away.

New to summer hockey?  Summer hockey is a modified form of field hockey, that uses the following rules…
- 7 players per side, plus up to 4 subs (11 in total);
- Teams are mixed gender, with a maximum of 4 males (per side) on the pitch at any time;
- No goalkeepers;
- Played across half of a hockey pitch;
- 2 × 25 minute halves;
- Ball must be below knee height at all times, including when shooting at goal.
- No hitting allowed (includes slap hits).  Pushes only.

Would be great to enter some mixed junior/senior teams in the Friday night ‘family’ competition too, as this presents a great development opportunity for our juniors. Juniors learn heaps when they get the chance to play with our senior players, so consider playing Friday night, even if you don’t have family members of your own to bring along.
